AFTER THEMAYOR OF IPSWICH FAITH AND COMMUNITY CONSULTATION
9TH FEBRUARY 2025

"Our vision for Ipswich
The role of the Faith Communities in building a cohesive society"

Some thoughts from Cynthia Capey

I am writing to follow up the Mayor's Faith and Community event on 9th February. We had a very fruitful meeting with delegates from a wide range of spiritual backgrounds (Baha'i, Buddhist, Christian, Hindu, Humanist, Jewish, Muslim, Pagan, Sikh and Taoist) borough councillors, and representatives of various community groups and public bodies.

The consultation took place just after UN World Interfaith Harmony Week (introduced in 2010 at the instigation of King Abdullah of Jordan  and observed annually during the 1st week of February)  We were mindful that interfaith work in general around the UK including the national interfaith week in November needs encouragement and continuing support and we were tasked with  considering the question "What should the future of interfaith work and events in Ipswich look like?"

Suggestions were requested for future interfaith activities in Ipswich and around Suffolk and there was a good response to this.  We will be working our way through these and would appreciate hearing from you with your ideas.  We would be pleased to know if you have any time to volunteer to help with some of the follow up - including updating resources, producing new material, offering hospitality, leading study groups and seminars. or being a trustee.

We are very grateful to Councillor Elango Elavalakan, Mayor of Ipswich for his hospitality and encouragement.
